Young driver is ’still with us’

LESTER PRAIRIE, MN – A young driver involved in a recent fatal accident in Lester Prairie is under an induced coma in intensive care at Hennepin County Medical Center, as of Friday, confirmed Sheriff Scott Rehmann.

“He is still with us, as of today,” Rehmann said of Danny Zellmann, 19, of Arlington, who was driving a white Grand Am, that was involved in a pedestrian-semi-car accident June 17.

At the time of the crash, Zellmann was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center.
The accident took place on Babcock Avenue (McLeod County Road 1) near Kennedy Avenue South.

One of two pedestrians, Stanley Ruben Ernst, 82, of Lester Prairie was deceased at the scene.  The other pedestrian, Stanley’s wife, Dorothy Ernst, 82, of Lester Prairie, was treated and later released.  The semi truck driver was not injured.  A passenger in Zellmann’s car was treated and released.
