Wright County commissioner race narrowed to two

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, the unofficial results of the primary election showed a clear separation between the three candidates for Wright County commissioner in District 5. With 88 percent of the precincts reporting, incumbent Richard “Dick” Mattson was in the lead with 1,143 votes (45 percent); Leonard Wozniak of Cokato was in second place with 908 votes (36 percent), and Tom LaPlant of Buffalo was in third place with 501 votes (20 percent). Based on these totals, Mattson and Wozniak would go on to the general election in November.
District 5 includes Albion Township, the City of Cokato, Cokato Township, French Lake Township, the City of Howard Lake, the City of Maple Lake, and Marysville, Middleville, Montrose, South Haven, Southside, Stockholm, and Victor townships.
UPDATE: According to Wright County Election Supervisor Gloria Gooler, there was a technical problem that prevented Wright County data from being uploaded properly Tuesday night. As a result, staff members are diligently working on manually entering the results from 39 precincts. Updated results will be posted when available.
