Woman dies in Norwood Young America fire

CARVER COUNTY, MN – Carver County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to investigate a house fire at 414 Railroad Street East in Norwood Young America (NYA) January 11, 2018 at approximately 5:54 p.m., according to a release from Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson.

Initial reports indicated an adult female, who was paralyzed and unable to move on her own, was inside the residence. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and observed the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames and smoke. NYA Fire and Rescue responded, along with the assistance of several area fire departments (Hamburg FD, Cologne FD, Plato FD, Mayer FD, New Germany FD), and extinguished the fire. Nancy Lee Green (71) of NYA was found in the residence, deceased.

Based on the preliminary investigation, fire officials believe this was an accidental fire. The residents had been thawing frozen pipes under the mobile home with a kerosene heater, which is believed to be the source of the fire. Ridgeview Medical Center Ambulance personnel treated two firefighters for non-life-threatening injuries sustained while fighting the fire. The Carver County Sheriff’s Office, MN State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, and NYA FD are continuing to investigate this incident.
