DELANO — The football and girls swimming team teams are still competing and not every winter team has even begun practice yet, but that does not stop the winter sports season from officially beginning Saturday afternoon.
Dropping the puck on the new winter season this Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Delano Area Sports Arena is the Tiger girls varsity hockey team. They host South St. Paul at 2 p.m.
The junior varsity game between the same two schools begins at noon.
Following the Saturday matinee, the Delano girls hockey team will compete again Thursday, Nov. 14, at home against Buffalo. Two days later, Saturday, Nov. 16, Delano goes to New Ulm for a 2 p.m. game.
The girls hockey team is the first to compete in the winter season, but long before those Tigers hit the ice for practice, the girls of the Delano Tiger Dance Team were working on their moves and routines at practice.
The Tiger dancers finally get to put what they’ve been working on to the test in front of an audience and judges Saturday, Nov. 16, when they host the State of Dance Invitational at the Tiger Activity Center.
Teams from Delano, Zimmerman, Foley, Mound-Westonka, St. Cloud Tech, St. Francis, Elk River, Buffalo, Waconia, Hutchinson, Rockford, ACGC, Crosby-Ironton and St. James will compete that day, representing all three classes in the state.
The competition begins at 11 a.m.
