WINSTED – Zemirah and Ariana Riemer stood next to County Hwy 1 in Winsted, near Casey’s Convenience Store today, Friday, May 29, with protest signs regarding the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd.
Zemirah, who will be a sophomore at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School in the fall, said she felt moved to protest because of the unfairness of the situation. She said she didn’t understand how such a tragedy could happen, and that she hoped people would become more aware of racial issues. She said she felt the officers involved should go to jail.
Drivers coming past the protesters honked in acknowledgment.
