Winsted Town Crier for Dec. 14 council meeting

WINSTED, MN – the Winsted Town Crier summarizing the agenda for today’s, Dec. 14 council meeting.

The primary item on the agenda is the adoption of the 2010 budget and levy. At their last meeting, the City Council was presented with a preliminary levy with a .6% increase over the 2009 levy. In another matter, the City Council will consider scheduling a public hearing for the adoption of an ordinance regulating tattooing and body piercing businesses. The City Council recently adopted a temporary ordinance enacting a moratorium on the establishment of a tattoo business for six (6) months, to allow the City some time to research and study a tattoo ordinance in Winsted. Tattoo businesses are often regulated by cities to ensure that basic health and safety precautions are being followed. Unregulated tattoo and/or piercing businesses, if operated in unsanitary conditions, can lead to the spread of disease and infections. The City of Winsted does not have an ordinance that regulates the operation of tattoo and related businesses in the community.

The draft ordinance includes; mandatory licensing, inspection of facilities, health and safety precautions, as well as zoning regulations.

The meeting will wrap up with a report from the Fire Department.

The Winsted City Council will meet to discuss these items at their meeting on Monday, December 14th at 6 p.m. in the Winsted City Hall Council Chambers.
