Victim identified in Winsted Lake snowmobile incident

WINSTED – On Nov. 28 at 6:33 p.m., the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a snowmobile possibly going into Winsted Lake just east of Winsted. At approximately 2:35 p.m. on Nov. 29, Lawrence Stifter, age 52, from Winsted, was found in the lake and his body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiners Office. Also assisting on the scene were the Winsted Police, Winsted Fire, Lester Prairie Fire, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Carver County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The cause of death is still under investigation.
