scoutWINSTED, MN — Weather was the theme as Winsted Girl Scouts celebrated Thinking Day March 7.

Meteorologist Lisa Schmit from the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, and a trained storm chaser, Theresa Caspers shared their interest in weather and how personal events in their lives impacted theirĀ  choice of occupations.

Schmit explained what a meteorologist does, their education, and the difference between the National Weather Service and the weather reported on television.

She also shared specifics of her job with the National Weather Service and the importance of information received from trained weather spotters.

Caspers talked passionately about how she views the weather differently than the average person, and how excited she is on days of stormy or active weather. She also shared video of hail and tornados she has filmed in Minnesota in the last 10 years. Girl Scouts participated in an activity to accurately measure hail stones and how-to place a call to county officials or the National Weather Service reporting weather specifics in their location. Other weather-related activities included games, craft, and a snack.

In the photo, Gabby Kutz, Madissen Burns, Paige Hausladen and Rabecka Salo took turns watching a tornado demonstration.
