The Winsted Community Baking Exchange hosted its eighth annual event Nov. 16. All of the participants met in the community room downstairs of Distinctive Dental Services in Winsted. The room was filled with five generations of excited bakers.
The main goals of the exchange are to meet new friends, from Winsted and the surrounding communities; learn about new recipes; save money buying ingredients; make baking easier and more convenient for the holidays; and to give the donated money to help others in time of need or less
fortunate. The event revolves around no expense, as everything is donated – prizes, refreshments, etc. – by Pam Fiecke. This year, half of the money generated from this year’s event will go to
the Winsted Festival Parade. Pam Fiecke, organizer of the event, spoke on behalf of the Festival
Parade, as she and her husband are Festival Parade Committee members.
“The money generated will go for the fireworks. Everyone loves our display of fireworks. The money will help with the expense,” said Fiecke. The other half of the money will go to the Rochester Children’s Hospital. Matt and Scott Conklin of Glencoe do a bike run every year to generate money. They brought many pictures displaying their passion of work and helping those in need. Matt spoke on behalf of this project. They have also been interviewed on TV in the past for their involvement. Hearts were touched by their needy challenge, and there was money put into their fundraiser container. Scott was the judge over all the baked goods. He received a plate of his favorite goodies, and the baker received a prize. All of the bakers in attendance at this year’s event are looking forward to attending next year’s baking exchange.
