I do know that schools still do things for holidays like this- HLWW student council sold carnations for people to buy and send to other students. I think it is awesome to show friends you love them this way- It's fun. And unfortunate for those that do not recieve anything but when they are adults and working, there will be a gal in the next office that receives flowers so they need to get use to it i guess.
