McLEOD COUNTY – A collision at the intersection of Hwy. 7 and McLeod County Road 1 between Winsted and Lester Prairie took, place at approximately 2 p.m. Sept. 25.

A 2019 Subaru Outback, driven by Barbar Kaeter, 67, of Omaha, NE was northbound on Babcock Ave. A 2004 Honda Pilot, driven by Curtis Paul Windmuller, 66, of Chanhassen was eastbound on Hwy 7. The vehicles collided at the intersection.

Airbags deployed in both vehicles.  The McLeod County Sheriff’s Office, Lester Prairie Police and Fire Departments, and Ridgeview Ambulance responded to the scene.  Windmuller was not injured; Kaeter was transported to the Waconia hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.  Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Law enforcement directed traffic around the accident scene. MnDot is in the initial planning phases of constructing a roundabout at the intersection, due to the number of crashes that happen there.  Over a five year period, between 2013 and 2017, there were 18 crashes at the intersection.
