Traffic detoured due to gas line break in Lester Prairie

LESTER PRAIRIE, MN – Emergency crews are working this afternoon (Wednesday, Oct. 10) to address a natural gas line break in Lester Prairie, according to Lester Prairie Police Chief Bob Carlson, who is also the city’s emergency manager. The break occurred when workers hit a gas line near the intersection of Babcock Avenue (McLeod County Rd. 1) and Lincoln Avenue on the west side of Lester Prairie. Lester Prairie police and firefighters are re-routing traffic at the intersection of First Ave. N. and Babcock Avenue (traffic is being allowed to turn north toward Winsted) and at the intersection of Second Ave. So. (traffic is being allowed to turn south toward Glencoe). Lincoln Ave. is blocked off at this time.

One residence has been evacuated as a precaution. “People are safe unless they hear from us,” Carlson said. Gas levels are being monitored, and additional residences would be evacuated if necessary.

A crew from CenterPoint Energy is en route to pinch off the gas lines. Once that has been completed, the road will be re-opened to traffic, Carlson said.
