Teen injured in Lake Waconia boating incident

CARVER COUNTY, MN – Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson noted in a release that on June 26 at about 12:50 p.m. his office received a 911 call reporting a boating accident involving a juvenile who was injured by a boat propeller on Lake Waconia. Two juvenile males from Waconia were boating on Lake Waconia when the victim (13) fell overboard while reaching for an object at the rear of the boat. He was struck by the propeller and sustained a serious injury to one of his legs. The watercraft operator (12) was able to pull the victim back onto the boat and return to the dock, where they were met by emergency personnel. The victim was subsequently transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by Ridgeview Ambulance. Both boys were wearing personal floatation devices, and had the appropriate watercraft operator’s permits. There is no indication this incident was the result of any unsafe operation of a watercraft, according to the release. Olson would like to remind everyone of the importance of wearing life jackets while boating. “This accident underscores the importance of wearing your life jacket,” Olson said

Waconia Fire Department and Ridgeview Ambulance assisted sheriff’s deputies on this call.
