HLWW FFA will send three teams to national competition

HOWARD LAKE, WAVERLY, WINSTED – MN

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW) FFA had two teams place first and one place third at the state competition that took place April 26 to 28.

The best informed greenhand (BIG) team, which placed first as a team, includes eight members, Kaitlyn Decker, Kylee Sherod, Savanna Weber, Brennan Barth, Zach Uter, Jordyn Tuchtenhagen, Jenna Benson, and Sarah Mach.

The novice parliamentary procedure team placed third as a team, and includes Kaitlyn Decker, Brennan Barth, Zach Uter, Jenna Benson, Savanna Weber, and Kylee Sherod.

The nursery landscape team placed first as a team, and included Chase Lange, Amanda Olson, Brian Barth, and Zach Uter.

ON THE MENU: Chicken Tenders or Turkey and Gravy

SOFTBALL: The JV softball team defeated Annandale last night 21-9. Varsity ended in a tie due to the rain. Tonight the softball teams have a double-header at Pierz at 4:00. The bus leaves at 1:25. Dismissal is at 1:15.

 

BASEBALL: The baseball teams have a home double-header against Pierz today at 4:00.

 

GIRLS GOLF: The girls golf team has a meet at Kimball today at 4:15. Bus leaves at 2:50.

 

BOYS GOLF: The boys golf team has a meet at Pierz today at 4:15. The bus leaves at 2:00. Dismissal is at 1:50.

 

VOLLEYBALL: Any 9th-11th grade girls planning on playing high school volleyball next fall need to attend the volleyball meeting tomorrow (5/8) at 7:20am in Mrs. Hogg’s classroom.

 

DRAMA: Drama students, please pick up a ballot from either Mr. Roux or Mrs. Dailey and cast your vote for the end of the year awards! Please note that there are TWO SIDES to the ballot. Completed ballots must be turned in by end of the school day on Monday May 11th. Stay tuned for more information regarding our banquet that will be held on Friday May 22nd.

 

YEARBOOK: The time has passed for Mr. Smith to order additional yearbooks if necessary. That means if you have not ordered your yearbook yet and want to guarantee you get one, you should order it today…EXTRAS CAN NO LONGER BE ORDERED. The remaining books will be on a first come, first serve basis and there are not many left. You can pay half now and half when the books arrive.

 

BLOOD DRIVE: There will be a blood drive next Thursday, May 14 for anyone 16 or older. Sign-up will take place during lunch. Donate blood to help save lives.

 

FITNESS CENTER HOURS: The weight room is back open in its new location…the bus garage! Hours are everyday after school from 2:35 – 4:15. Look for the open garage doors. No cardio machines are set up, just the weights.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarship information (available scholarships and deadlines) are available on Family Connection! Please keep checking there as new ones are added!

 

PARENTS/ACTIVITY PARTICIPANTS: Reminder that if a student will not be riding the bus to or from an event they need to have a “Contest Travel Release” form filled out, signed by the parent and on file in the activities office prior to dismissal of school on the day of the contest! This form is available in the high school office and online on the school’s Activity webpage.

29 players have hit a homerun on the first pitch of their MLB career… Twins Eddie Rosario did that last night!

SUMMER STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING: The 2015 Summer Strength and Conditioning Program is for HLWW students entering 7-12th grade. The one-hour sessions will take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings in June and July at the high school track and weight room. More info and registration forms are locatedin the high school office and on the Activity page of the HLWW website. Session preference will be given in order of when the registration forms and payment are turned in.

SOFTBALL: The softball team lost to Rockford last night.

 

BASEBALL: Both baseball teams lost to Rockford last night. Tonight they travel to Dassel-Cokato. Bus leaves at 3:00.

 

TRACK: The track team competes in the True Team Meet today at Maple Lake beginning at 2:15. Bus leaves at 12:55. Students will be dismissed at 12:45.

SOFTBALL: The softball teams play a double-header at home against Holdingford today at 4:00.

 

BASEBALL: The baseball teams play a double-header at Holdingford today at 4:00. The bus leaves at 1:35. Players are dismissed at 1:25.

 

BOYS GOLF: The boys golf team has a meet at Rockford (Shamrock Golf Course) today at 4:15. The bus leaves at 2:50.

 

GIRLS GOLF: The girls golf team has a meet at the Pierz Country Club today at 3:45. The bus leaves at 1:15.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL: There will be a girls basketball meeting Friday morning during Laker Break in Mr. Guentzel’s room.

 

VISUAL ARTS: Brady Schesso received a certificate of Excellence at the MSHSL Visual Arts Sections. He also received comments and points for his good composition and attention to deal. He was also noted for how well he expressed his ideas and what a wonderful set he had created. Great job, Brady.

STUDENT COUNCIL DIAPER DRIVE: The student council is hosting a Diaper Drive and it has been extended another week, so you have until tomorrow to bring in items! Please bring in diapers, wipes and new pajamas to your 2nd hour class. All donations go to Wright County Crisis Nursery. The class that collects the most items will win “jungle” themed treats for Friday, May 1st! Bananas will be posted on the tree in the commons to reflect class collections throughout the week.

 

PROM: The prom committee needs help finding the following items for decorating grand march: 3 -4 nice benches and white Christmas lights. If you have any of these items that can be utilized in this year’s grand march, please contact Amanda Byrne at the high school (abyrne@hlww.k12.mn.us). Thank you!

The parents and players will meet the coaches and talk about the upcoming season and expectations. We are looking for volunteers, parents or an older experienced student to help coach a few teams – the 10U and one of the 12U teams.
