Ronald Albert Otto, 58, was transported from the scene for injuries sustained, according to the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office.
Otto was airlifted from the scene by LifeLink to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), where he was listed in serious condition as of Friday morning, according to HCMC Senior Media Relations Specialist Christine Hill
Lester Prairie Fire Chief Jim Hoof said Otto and his brother Robert were welding on a large tank and put air in it, causing a seam of the tank to explode.
Hoof said there was no fire and the explosion didn’t appear to do any damage to the building the Ottos were working in. Robert Otto was not injured.
Along with the sheriff’s office, the Lester Prairie First Responders, Ridgeview Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol, and LifeLink responded to the scene.

MONTROSE, MN – Loren Helmbrecht, 57, of Howard Lake, became trapped in a grain bin filled with soybeans Wednesday morning while working at Randy Dalbec’s farm south of Montrose on Highway 25 SW in Woodland Township.

“You crawl up there and see what you got,” Montrose Fire Chief Mike Marketon said about rescuing a trapped victim.

He looked into the bin and saw Helmbrecht buried up to his shoulders.

“You try to build a box around him and shovel away from him,” Marketon said. “Once you build the box, you keep shoveling out methodically and expose his chest. You keep building the box bigger. It’s a slow process.”

Montrose authorities were called to the farm at 9:25 a.m., and Helmbrecht was removed from the bin around noon, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.

A hole had become plugged, and Dalbec and Helmbrecht were trying to unplug it, Dalbec said.

Helmbrecht did not appear to have any injuries from the incident and was checked by personnel from Ridgeview Ambulance. Montrose Fire Department cleared the scene just before 1 p.m.

Agencies assisting the sheriff’s office and Montrose Fire Department at the scene included the Watertown Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance, and FitzSimmons Service Co.

“I’m just happy everything turned out alright,” Dalbec said. “A big ‘thanks’ to the fire departments and everyone who came to help get him out.”

Dalbec farms about 150 acres at that site, and also has additional acres in the area.

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – A Waverly man died March 27 as the result of a one veicle rollover in Maple Lake Township, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office

Wright County Sheriff’s Office and Maple Lake Fire Rescue responded to County Road 8 and County Road 9 Northwest in Maple Lake Township for a one vehicle rollover crash March 27 at 5:45 p.m.

Initial investigation indicates Eric Alan Markham, 44, of Waverly was traveling northbound on County Road 8 when he ran off the right side of the road and lost control of his vehicle. It appeared he hit a field approach causing his vehicle, a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, to become airborne and roll several times. Markham, the sole occupant, was ejected from the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Markham was airlifted to St. Cloud hospital where he later died. The crash remains under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
