MOUND – The hits keep coming for the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato girls hockey team. The most recent hit was Saturday when the Dragons (0-8) hit the road to take on Mound-Westonka and lost 9-1.
That goal did break a two-game scoreless streak for the Dragons, but it wasn’t enough to combat the Whitehawks.
LDC just couldn’t put nearly as many shots on goal as the Whitehawks did, as they were outshot 45-7. With so many pucks peppering Dragons goalie Kati Hanson, stopping all of them was just too big of a task.
The Whitehawks scored three goals in the first, four in the second, and two in the third.
LDC’s lone goal came from Ellie Black 34 seconds into the second period. Mikka Langmo and Emma Lemke had the assists.
LDC’s penalty kills were ok as Mound-Westonka was 1-for-3 on power plays. But when the Dragons had their power-play line on the ice, things really went bad. Of the four power-play opportunities LDC had, they did not score on one, but allowed two short-handed goals to the Whitehawks.

Sam Falk of the Storm also had a hat trick in the game with two goals in the second period, and one in the third.
Kati Hanson had 33 saves, but couldn’t keep up with MBA as they peppered the net. The Dragons just had a hard time keeping the Storm away as they were outshot 42-6 in shots on goal during the game.

Dragons go 0-2 at Willmar
It was a rough holiday weekend for LDC Friday and Saturday when they played in the Willmar Invitational. The Dragons were blown in both of their games, losing 12-1 to Morris/Benson Area, and 10-1 to Mankato East.
Against MBA, the Storm got off to a quick start with three goals in the first period, including a short-handed goal.
At four minutes into the second period, Ellie Black put the Dragons on the board with a goal assisted by Brittney Berning. The Storm didn’t let up, however, and followed with a flurry of four goals in less than two minutes. A fifth goal toward the end of the period made it an 8-1 game. MBA put up four more goals in the final period to put the Dragons to bed.
LDC came back Saturday to face Mankato East. The Cougars started the scoring with a goal four minutes into the first period, but Black replied for the Dragons with an unassisted goal at 8:27.
That tied the game up at one, but from that point things would get out of hand, again, for LDC.
Kolstad would score another goal to make 2-1 going into the second period. The Cougars then erupted with three goals in the first four minutes, and finished with six total in the period.
Mankato East scored two more in the third period to finish the game.
Although the Dragons didn’t have any penalties against MBA, they committed three against Mankato East, and the Cougars took full advantage with two power-play goals.
