No more diving at Watertown-Mayer pool

WATERTOWN, MN –  At the Watertown-Mayer School Board meeting Oct. 26, the school board voted to no longer allow diving at the pool.

The decision was made due to safety and liability issues.

According to the Carver County News, the diving well at the pool does not meet high school requirements for competitive diving, or state code requirements for the use of a one-meter board.
However, diving was permitted as long as the athlete, coach, and parent would sign a consent form.

A situation did arise earlier this year when a diver from Orono hit their head on the bottom of the pool during a dive, which brought about the school board’s decision.
Alternatives for practice will be looked into in the coming weeks.
