NFL pick-a-winner online contest: Week 4 (Week 3 results)

Things were much better for pickers in the third week as a majority posted records in the double digits. The top pickers this week were the Montgomery family and Matt Hertel who both posted 14-2 records.

After posting the single-week record of 15-1 in the first week of picks, the Montgomery family missed the second week to fall back in the standings. They returned this week with vengeance, however, and put themselves right back in contention.

Chargers face Orono in Week 4

By Stephen Wiblemo
Sports Editor
The rain is falling here in Cokato, but it will take more than a little water to stop the eventual storm that will be hitting area tonight when the Charger football team hosts Wright Country Conference rival Orono on homecoming night.
Going into tonight’s game the Chargers know they have a tough assignment to take down the 10th-ranked team in state in Class 4A, but they also know what they will have to do to complete this assignment successfully, and DC head coach Ryan Weinandt has prepared them all week.

Two Ringer duos bring home state medals

Ron Fadden teamed up with his son Nick Fadden for the first time as a father and son team, and the two captured first in a tight class the weekend of Sept. 19-20 at the Minnesota State Doubles Horseshoe Tournament at Genola Arena. The two are Rockford Ringers.
Sixty teams entered the tournament, seven of them being Rockford Ringers.
Four of the six teams in the Faddens’ class tied with a 3-2 record, so the ringer percentage was used as the tie-breaker.
The Fadden boys entered with a combined 57.24 percent average and pitched an average of 57 percent in the round-robin play. They narrowly defeated the second-place team which averaged 56 percent. The other teams pitched 53 and 52 percent.
The Fadden father-and-son team won one game by one point over the Rockford Ringers team of Tom Holland and Ron Mead. The match was determined on the last shoe of the game.
Last year, Ron Fadden teamed up with Lowell Johnson to win the tournament, so it was a back-to-back win for Ron at State Doubles.
Lowell was goose hunting in Canada this year and was unable to enter.
The other Rockford Ringers  team of Marv Timm and Glen Berglund tied for second place. Timm and Berglund finished  with a 4-1 record and a 32 percent average. Their entrant average of 27.98 percent. They shared second palce with a team from North Mankato.
This tournament concluded the Minnesota Gopher State Horseshoe Pitchers Assocation season.

NFL pick-a-winner online contest: Week 3 (Week 2 results)

Week 2 was especially brutal on our pickers as several favored teams went down. No other game beat our pickers more, however, than the Patriots losing to the Jets. With so many upsets and difficult games to predict, the scores were very low, and the best record of the week was 10-6 marked by Shawn Gebhardt, Rob Neumann, and Brian Heimerl.

There were a few new pickers in week 2, but even more pickers from the first week that didn’t get their picks in this round, giving others a chance to catch up or take a nice lead.
