Members of the Dassel-Cokato Softball Association’s 16U team take a picture with their medals after going undefeated in the Crow River Fastpitch State Tournament Qualifier and being crowned CRF champions. Members of the team are: front – Kayla Sturm, Sam Terning, Elle Niemela, Jordyn Campbell, Kristen Haider, Larrissa Karl; back – Coach Amanda Berg, Carolyn Kivisto, Janna VanOvermeer, Kayla Maher, Chelsey Hartkopf, and coach Morrie Niemela. The girls swept through the qualifier in Litchfield Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19. On the first day they beat Delano 12-2 and Glencoe-Silver Lake 4-1. On the second day, the girls defeated Maple Lake 11-3, and then pulled out a 6-5 victory over Howard Lake in the championship. The girls went on to compete at the Class C Minnesota State Fastpitch Tournament in Sauk Rapids Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26. This issue of the Enterprise Dispatch went to press before those games were played.

Required DC fall sports team meetings will be held Thursday, August 13 at 7 p.m. at the high school for all 7th-12th grade participants and their parents or guardians.
All eligibility paperwork should be complete and on file in the Activities Office prior to attending this meeting. Eligibility paperwork packets are available outside the Activities Office for pickup anytime the school building is open. The paperwork is also accessible online by clicking here and going under “Activity Forms”.
A sports physical is also required for all athletes (not fine arts) and generally is needed in 7th and 10th grade. This physical is good for three years.
After all eligibility requirements are turned in at the Activities Office, the participant will receive an eligibility card the must be given to the coach before the participant will be allowed to begin practice.
The activity fee (per activity) is $60 for 7th and 8th graders, and $80 for 9th-12th graders with an individual cap of $160. A parent volunteer sign-up will be available in the activities office. For every six events worked, the volunteer may choose to waive an activity fee or receive a free season pass.

SLEEPY EYE – The Dassel-Cokato VFW baseball team has proven many times that they are never out of a game until the final out is made.
Thursday in Sleepy Eye, during the opening game of the District 2 playoffs, the Chargers proved this once against as they rallied from behind in the seventh inning to defeat Fairmont 9-6 in eight innings.
“Even when we are behind, we step up in the end,” DC’s Jasper Asplin said. “It always seems to be turning our way lately.”
Early on, the hits did not come easy for the Chargers, which is partly why they found themselves in a 5-3 hole going into the top of the seventh inning.

BUFFALO — The scoring didn’t come until late in the game for the Kings local baseball team Wednesday, but when it did, it came in a big way.
The fifth-seeded Kings were in Buffalo to face the second-seeded Bulldogs in their first game of the North Star League West playoffs, and although the Kings had just two hits in the first six innings, they finished strong with a total of 10 hits and a 9-2 playoff victory.

NEW ULM – Pitching was the name of the game Wednesday night in New Ulm when the Dassel-Cokato Saints took on the Kaiserhoff in a non-league game and lost 2-1.

The Charger VFW baseball team won its District 2 opening game Thursday against Fairmont in dramatic fashion. Dassel-Cokato trailed 5-3 going into the seventh inning, but rallied back to win 9-6 in eight innings. The Chargers played another game today (Friday) at 10 a.m., and has another one at 4 p.m. whether they win the first game or not.
