An icy entrepreneur

Growing up, people are encouraged to “do what you love,” find jobs in fields they are interested in so working every day doesn’t become a pain.
While most people may not be miserable where they work, it would be a difficult stretch to say everyone “loves” their job.
As you grow up, priorities change, and whether you love your job or not becomes less important than whether it is stabile and secure.
It is difficult to make a living doing what you love, this is true. But, with a little ingenuity, it is possible to do what you love, and earn a little something on the side.
That is exactly what Josh Grangroth has done with his new chartered ice fishing service.

Lester Prairie seventh grader Alex Heigl headed to All-American football game

LESTER PRAIRIE, MN – It all started this past summer in Chicago, IL., and now Lester Prairie seventh grader Alex Heigl is one of just 40 seventh graders in the country to receive this special honor.
Heigl has been selected to play in the Football University Youth All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas Sunday, Jan. 4.

Mayer Lutheran Crusaders hosting girls’ basketball tournament

The Mayer Lutheran Crusaders girls’ basketball team will be hosting a holiday basketball tournament starting today (Monday) and running through Wednesday, Jan. 31.
The opening game of the tournament today will begin at 3 p.m. with Delano taking on Mahtomedi, followed by Minnetonka vs. Orono at 4:30 p.m.; Watertown-Mayer facing Warroad at 6 p.m.; and the first-round ending with the host Crusaders battling Providence Academy at 7:30 p.m.
Games Tuesday, Dec. 30 will begin at 3, 4:30, 6, and 7:30 p.m.
The final day of the tournament will be Wednesday, Dec. 31 with games starting at 10 a.m., continuing at 11:30 p.m. The third-place game will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the championship game at 2:30 p.m.

Bison doubled-up by Trojans

BUFFALO — An early-season Section 6AA match-up took place Dec. 20 when Wayzata paid a visit to Buffalo.

The visiting Trojans came in ranked 19th in the Class AA polls, and secured their spot in the top-20 with a 4-2 win over the Bison.

2008 high school holiday basketball tournament previews

Christmas time is here, and with it are a plethora of high school holiday basketball tournaments.
Our own Lakers and Bulldogs, both boys and girls, will all be competing in tournaments over this holiday season.
The boys’ teams, Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, will be hosting their very own annual tournaments.
Meanwhile, the LP/HT and HLWW girls’ teams will be hitting the road to compete in separate tournaments.
