The Dassel-Cokato cross country team, and head coach Mike Lhotka, had to wait 11 years before returning to the state cross country meet. But, Thursday, Oct. 23, the wait was over as freshman Troy Koivisto ended the drought that had lasted more than a decade.
Koivisto placed seventh at the Section 2AA cross country meet in Chaska and qualified for the Class AA boys state cross country meet that will take place Saturday, Nov. 1 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.
“It’s been (11) years since we’ve had a kid in state,” Lhotka said. “We’ve had two in twenty some years, and we had two in the same year.”
The last Chargers to qualify for the state meet were back in 1997. At that time, DC was only Class A and ran in the Section 5A meet. The two boys who qualified were junior Jake Yurek and senior Chris Yerka. Yurek took fifth in a time of 17:00, and Yerka was seventh in a time of 17:08.

COKATO, MN – The home-court advantage has played in the Dassel-Cokato volleyball team’s favor all season, but Friday, Oct. 24 the Chargers’ Section 6AA South playoff match against Annandale did not go as well.
The fourth-seeded Chargers played host to the fifth-seeded Cardinals, and with a packed gym at the DC High School, it was the perfect atmosphere for a Charger victory.
The Chargers fell behind early though, dropping the first two games to Annandale 25-22 and 25-23.
In the third game, though, DC got a little spark from one of its seniors, and 25-21, then went on to win the next game convincingly, 25-16.
Despite fighting back from a two-game deficit to force a fifth game, the Chargers could not complete the comeback as the Cardinals won 15-9 to take the match.

The 2008 Dassel-Cokato football season came to a close Oct. 21 as the seventh seeded Chargers travelled to face the second seeded Dragons for the Section 3AAA quarterfinal, and lost 23-0.
This is earliest the Chargers have ended a season since the 2002 team marked an 0-8 record and missed the playoffs all together.
In their first meeting during the regular season, the Dragons were able to capitalize on a pair of 73-yard touchdown runs, so one thing the Chargers were looking to stop were big plays.
DC was successful with not allowing any big plays to hurt them, but they weren’t able to keep Litchfield from slowly grinding the ball into the end zone.

LESTER PRAIRIE, MN – Heading into Saturday’s Section 4A semifinal showdown with the Royalton Royals, the Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Bulldogs’ football team knew they were in for a tough battle.
Royalton entered the game with an 8-1 record, and were the state’s second ranked team in Class 1A.
Well, Royalton showed LP/HT just how tough they were in beating the Bulldogs 42-16 Saturday night.
“We ran into a good team tonight (Saturday). We just couldn’t stop them, then when we finally did, it bounced off two of our guys and they caught it,” head coach Joe Scoblic said. “Our boys have nothing to hang their heads about. I am proud of these players. They were a pleasure to coach all year.”
The loss ends an impressive season for LP/HT in which they improved from 2-8 last year to 8-2 in 2008.
