DASSEL – The Saints opened the North Star League season on a strong note, playing well in all three facets of the game in a 14-4, seven-inning victory over visiting Montrose-Waverly Wednesday, July 1.
At the plate, the Saints did massive damage in two innings, taking control of the game with a nine-run third inning, and putting the game away with a five-run sixth.
In the field, the Saints committed just two errors, a big improvement over the last few games.
And on the mound, DC starting pitcher James Howell – normally a one- or two-inning reliever – had the longest outing of his career, going five innings to pick up the victory.
DC outhit the Stingers 11-5 overall. Ben Lindquist and Noah Halonen both had triples for DC, with Tyler Brandel adding a two-run double.
