WATERTOWN, MN – Watertown-Mayer Royals’ head football coach Ed Rundell stepped down as the head coach this past week.
Rundell, who has been the head coach at Watertown-Mayer for five seasons, had an overall record of 8-36, after going 0-9 this past season.
According to W-M activities director Mary Haugen, the position will be posted sometime after the first of the year, with the hope of a new coach being hired by early spring.
“Ed has been a real asset as a coach in our school and hopefully, in the future, it will work for him to coach again in some capacity,” Haugen said. “He is very much a student-centered educator, always with the best interests of kids in mind.”
While the 2009 season was a tough year in terms of wins and losses for the Royals on the field, Rundell was happy with the effort his team showed.
“As far as the year went, in general, we were obviously 0-9, but I was very pleased with the efforts and the attitudes of our players all year long,” Rundell said following the season.
