Prairie Days planning begins in Lester Prairie

LESTER PRAIRIE, MN – Lester Prairie’s Prairie Days Committee conducted its first meeting for 2010 Jan. 19, and discussed new ideas as well as familiar favorite activities.
The dates are set for the third weekend in July, Friday and Saturday July 16 and 17.
The band “Diamondback,” which played during the event last year has been booked again for 2010.
The committee plans to work on promotion to bring back events including the demo derby and the softball tournament.
Two popular events that were added last year, the car show and the kids’ treasure hunt will be brought back this year.
Possible new events that were discussed include a bingo stand and a raptor release at Sunrise Nature Park.
There will be a city-country softball game July 16.
Saturday afternoon events will include old-time music and a kids’ carnival.
The annual Prairie Days parade will take place Saturday, July 17.
The Prairie Arts Council will again sponsor a fun run during Prairie Days.
There will be a community breakfast Sunday, July 18 sponsored by Lester Prairie Community Education.
The committee is looking for volunteers to help with planning and to share ideas. The next Prairie Days meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the Lester Prairie fire hall.
