Pipe bomb discovered in mailbox in Watertown Township

WATERTOWN TOWNSHIP, MN – Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson reports that at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to investigate a report of an undetonated “pipe bomb” inside a mailbox located near the intersection of Carver County Road 20 and County Road 127 in Watertown Township.

The responding deputies summoned assistance from Bloomington Police Department Bomb Squad and Watertown Fire Department.

The Bloomington Police Bomb Technicians responded to the scene and safely detonated the device.

Deputies collected debris and thoroughly checked the area for additional undetonated devices, debris or other evidence.

There were no injuries or permanent property damage in this incident.

The matter remains under investigation by the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.
