Orphans down Kernels, 9-5

HOWARD LAKE – Once again, a calamitous first inning put the Kernels behind the eight ball in a 9-5 loss to Howard Lake Sunday.

This time, it was walks that was Cokato’s undoing. Starter Tanner Terning gave up four walks and one hit in 1/3 of an inning, and was charged with three runs.

Jake Hendrickson threw 5 2/3 innings of relief, giving up three runs on nine hits and one walk, while Tom Halonen gave up three runs on two hits and four walks through two innings.

Billy Aho and Chad Koivisto both had two hits for Cokato, with Halonen adding two RBI.

Jared Koch went 8 2/3 innings for Howard Lake to pick up the win. Brad Bickman had three hits for the Orphans, and Mitch Baumann drove in four runs, including a bases-clearing double in the ninth inning.
