Osama or Obama? NY ballots list #1 terrorist instead of DFL candidate

About 300 absentee ballots in upstate New York were sent with a one letter typo — unfortunately, the typo changed the DFL endorsed candidate Barack Obama into Osama . . . of which the only Osama that most Americans know is Osama bin Laden, according to KARE 11 News. The absentee ballots sent to voters in Rensselaer County identified the two presidential candidates as “Barack Osama” and “John McCain.” The typographical terror error was first reported by the Times Union of Albany. It was attributed to human error, and once discovered, additional ballots were shredded.

Harvest Festival at All Saints Sunday

DARWIN, MN – A Fall Harvest Festival is planned for Sunday, Oct. 12 at All Saints Lutheran Church, Darwin from noon to 4 p.m.
Events include a silent auction, meat raffle, and hog roast dinner.
Proceeds will benefit the church building fund.

COKATO, MN – Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church will host its fall festival Saturday, Oct. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. featuring square dancing and activities for children. Tickets are $5 each for a pork chop dinner.
Proceeds to benefit those in need within the community through the church’s discretionary fund.

COKATO, MN – The Cokato Finnish American Historical Society will host its fall festival at Temperance Corner, located 3 miles north on Cty. Rd. 3 off Hwy. 12, Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All historical buildings will be open and full of displays.
There will be a bake sale with pasties, pulla bread, pies and more at 10 a.m.
The program will be at noon. Pictures and stories from the Bajari family history will be the featured program along with a pictorial report of the suva sauna restoration. A raffle drawing will follow the program.
Raffle prizes include a handcrafted Sami “Four Winds” hat, two $50 cash prizes, and a handmade afghan. Crafts will be sold in the schoolhouse.
There will be free bittersweet while it lasts.
Genealogy information about local Finnish settlers will be available.

Cokato Community Chest starts Oct. 13

COKATO, MN – Volunteers will be canvassing the entire city on behalf of the annual Cokato Community Chest fund drive Monday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Because there is a Community Chest drive in Cokato on an annual basis, no other door-to-door solicitations are conducted. In the 2007 drive, $12,744.00 was divided among 33 organizations.

DASSEL-COKATO, MN – In an effort to continue to keep ticket prices affordable, the Dassel-Cokato Arts Association is hosting its first-ever fundraising event featuring talented individuals with DC connections.

Accident occurs at Dassel bank

DASSEL, MN – A collision occurred Sept. 30 in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo Bank in Dassel.
Lisa Kinnunen of Cokato allegedly backed her 2004 Mitsubishi into a Chevrolet Impala belonging to Sonja Olson of Litchfield. There was approximately $1,000 worth of damage in the accident, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.

DASSEL, MN – A collision occurred Sept. 29 at the intersection of Third Street and William Avenue in Dassel.
Steven Tyler of South Haven allegedly drove his 1999 Ford into a 1989 Ford driven by David Holden of Hutchinson. There were no injuries, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.

Dassel bank receives fake bills

DASSEL, MN – Wells Fargo Bank in Dassel reported Oct. 1 it received two counterfeit $20-bills in its deposit box. The bills were sent to the bank’s headquarters, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.
