Submitted by Susan Marco: In some of the toughest competition of the speech season, D-C competed at the annual Fiesta tournament at Mankato East High School on March 15th. Twenty-three teams were there to prepare for eventual sub-sections and section competitions. Amanda Imberg, senior, double entered and competed in two categories in which she was able to final in both. She placed 3rd in Drama and took the 1st place trophy in Creative Expression. Imberg’s talent and competitive edge was clearly demonstrated by this remarkable feat. Besides Imberg making it into finals, Sam Kampa, junior, also competed in drama finals. Kampa placed 5th overall in Drama. Elyse Kallgren, junior, placed 6th in Creative Expression while teammate, Adrienne Haataja placed 7th in Oratory. Eric Dahlman, senior, placed 7th overall in Humorous which was one of the largest categories in the tournament with an estimated 65 competitors. Rachel Korhonen had high enough scores to be the only Drama competitor to make it into showcase which is a presentation of 13 different performers from each category. Other team members just missed making it into finals. These competitors were given Honorable Mention ribbons. Sara Hughes and Abby Jo Imberg (eighth graders) both received ribbons in the category of Humorous. Beth Schmid and Lillia Khelif received a ribbon in Duo Interpretation. Natalie Davis received a ribbon in the category of Drama while Dan Linder received a ribbon for Original Oratory. Scott Steuck took a ribbon in Discussion
The team looks forward to 2AA Sections held at Mankato West High School on April 5th.
