Dassel resident victimized

A resident at 250th Street, Dassel, notified the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office about an Internet scam June 18 in which the victim lost $2,900.
The scammers, based in Iraq, had a fraudulent web site selling automobiles, Meeker County Sheriff’s Captain Brad Lindgren said.
The scammers used real vehicle identification numbers, but didn’t possess the vehicles they claimed to be selling. The price for the vehicle included shipping. When  an offer on the Internet for a large item includes shipping, this is a red flag the offer is a scam, Lindgren warned.
