‘Last Word’ luncheon reservation deadline Oct. 18

COKATO, MN – West Central Christian Seniors will host a “Last Word” luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Cokato.
Jon Benson of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Howard Lake will provide special music.
Special feature at the luncheon is “Going, Going, Gone, presented by Kathy Krone, Bethel Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie.
Pastor Todd Harris of Hutchinson is the devotional speaker.
A $7 donation is requested.
A silent auction is planned from 11 a.m. to noon.

Information sought for veterans section

DASSEL-COKATO, MN – Submissions for this year’s Veterans’ Day publication are due Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Information published last year will be run this year. For any new information, a form is available in this week’s paper or at any of our offices.

Cokato Community Chest starts today

COKATO, MN – Volunteers will be canvassing the entire city on behalf of the annual Cokato Community Chest fund drive Monday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Because there is a Community Chest drive in Cokato on an annual basis, no other door-to-door solicitations are conducted. In the 2007 drive, $12,744.00 was divided among 33 organizations.

Residents can register to vote by mail

MEEKER, WRIGHT COUNTIES, MN – For residents who recently moved, voter registration can be made by mail ahead of time through Tuesday, Oct. 14, or may be done election day by bringing a current utility bill dated within 30 days of the election, along with a picture ID, in order to establish residency.
To pre-register before Oct. 14, residents must send a request to the county auditor in their respective county or do so online at the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office at www.sos.state.mn.us.
Wright County
Send requests to Wright Co. Election Division, 10 Second St. NW Room 230, Buffalo, MN 55313.
Meeker County
Send requests to the Meeker County Auditor, Courthouse, Level 4, 325 Sibley Avenue North, Litchfield, MN  55355.

ST. PAUL MN – Local and national elections prompt many citizens to express their opinions, but the Minnesota Department of Transportation warns campaign managers that placing signs in highway rights-of-way is illegal.

State law prohibiting signs in the rights-of-way includes those along state highways, county roads, township roads and city streets.

Harvest Festival at All Saints Sunday

DARWIN, MN – A Fall Harvest Festival is planned for Sunday, Oct. 12 at All Saints Lutheran Church, Darwin from noon to 4 p.m.
Events include a silent auction, meat raffle, and hog roast dinner.
Proceeds will benefit the church building fund.
