DASSEL, MN - Dassel Public Works Director Dave Scepaniak was upset to find the flowers he planted at Veterans Memorial Park had been deliberately damaged.
The incident must have occurred sometime Sunday night, Scepaniak said, having found the hardy plants broken at the stems Monday morning.
Just the idea that the flowers were purposely damaged that were on, what Scepaniak calls “sacred ground,” was appalling to him.
“It’s a shame and it shouldn’t be tolerated,” Scepaniak said.
He is asking anyone who has information regarding the damage to contact Dassel City Hall, (320) 275-2454; or one of the local deputies at (320) 275-2827. There will be a $100 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the individual(s) who are responsible.
Community service is typical sentencing for vandalism of this sort and Scepaniak said he has plenty of weed detail.
“It’s just mindless to me,” Scepaniak said.

NEW GERMANY, MN – More than 1,200 people registered to bid – and many more showed up to watch the show – when the Fred W. Radde & Sons auction center in New Germany auctioned off some of auto mogul Denny Hecker’s personal property Wednesday evening.
The auction began at 5 p.m., but people had already begun flooding the site by 3:30 p.m.
The items up for auction were from Hecker’s personal collection of toys, including pontoon boats, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, and an abundance of golf equipment.
This auction included “summer” items, and auctions of other items of Hecker’s property may follow.
Despite the large turnout and the intense media attention that surrounded the Hecker auction, auctioneer Fred W. Radde said he treats all auctions the same, and this one was no exception.
