Meeker Memorial Hospital: new name, new addition

Litchfield, mn - Meeker Memorial Hospital Opens the Doors to a New Era in Healthcare, according to a press release.

After much anticipation, the new hospital will open its doors today.  Departments will begin operations and move into the new 75,000 square foot expansion on June 29, 2009.  Rehabilitation Services, Emergency Services/Admitting, Radiology, Surgery, Medical Surgical/Critical Care/ OB will all be relocated in a timely move.

Rehabilitation Services will see their patients in the new service area on Mon., June 29.  Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Physical Therapy will be in one location.  Patients arriving at the hospital should use the new South entrance to the facility.

Early in the day, Emergency Services and Admitting will transfer over to the new facility, followed by Radiology Services, Surgery and the Inpatient Floor.  The entire move should occur by evening.  A transition team at the hospital has been working to plan the move with little disruption to patient care to offer a smooth transition to patient services.

Laboratory Services, Meeker Advanced Medicine, Cancer Care and Center for Senior Behavioral Health will remain in the same location and patients and visitors will be routed from the South entrance.  After the move is complete, the old entrances will be closed.  All patients will enter through the new South canopied entrance.

Construction will continue on the project to complete the Admitting, Business Office, Medical Records, new Gift Shop and Chapel.  Additional renovation to the existing building will occur through the summer.   There will be a dedication event planned in the fall to mark the completion of Phase One of the 26.5 million dollar expansion.

Motorcycle accident on County Road 4

COKATO, MN - A Buffalo man was in satisfactory condition at Hennepin County Medical Center Wednesday after he lost control of his motorcycle June 20 north of Cokato.
Jeffrey Lee Davenport was driving a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle when he lost control and went off County Road 4, just north of 25th Street, in the early evening, according to a report from the Wright County Sheriff’s Department.
When the deputy arrived on scene, Davenport was lying on the grass approximately 20 feet from the motorcycle. Looking at the skids, it appeared Davenport was driving south, accodring to the report.
Davenport was treated by the Cokato ambulance and then flown by Lifelink to HCMC.
As of Wednesday, Davenport was listed in satisfactory condition at HCMC, according to Christine Hill, media relations specialist at HCMC.

Burglary north of Dassel

DASSEL, MN - A burglary was reported at 18730 705th Avenue, northwest of Dassel June 22 at the home of Dale Anderson, according to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin.
There was forced entry through a window and large items were removed including a wooden coffee table, an antique rocking chair, a metal framed bed (no mattress), a mirror, and other furniture.
Anderson told the deputy the burglary would have occurred either June 21 or June 22. The report was taken at 5:08 p.m. June 22.
As of Wednesday, there were no suspects and the case was still under investigation, according to Norlin.

Items reported stolen from locked storage shed at Cokato Town and Country

COKATO, MN – Several items were reported stolen including sets of golf clubs, from a locked storage shed at the Cokato Town and Country Club, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Department.

A report was taken after a sheriff responded to the call Sunday, June 21 at 10:23 a.m. At this time, the club is still determining what all has been stolen through customer evaluations. There are currently no suspects.

Fatal rollover in Wright County

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN — A young woman from Wayzata is dead following a rollover near Rockford on Highway 55 Saturday night.

Jennifer L. O’Connor, 25, of Wayzata was killed when the 1998 GMC 4 door Jimmy ran off the right side of the road and rolled at 10:26 p.m., according to the State Patrol.  She was westbound at the time.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.

Darwin liquor store manager resigns

DARWIN, MN - Former city clerk Carmen Kolar attended her final Darwin City Council meeting Tuesday as she resigned from her position as liquor store manager.
Kolar will take a managerial position elsewhere and therefore conducted an exit interview during the meeting.
Her last day as manager was Wednesday, and her final day as part-time city clerk was Thursday.
The council appointed Stan Anderson as interim liquor store manager.
