ROBBINSDALE, MN — A Princeton man who crashed his truck into a Wright County ditch along Highway 101 near Ostego May 29, died this afternoon (May 30) in Robbinsdale, according to WCCO.
Friday, at the time of the accident, Lance Osterkamp, 64, of Princeton, was driving a 1998 Chevy truck southbound on Highway 101 when he veered on the road, hit a small approach crossing the oncoming lanes, came back through the median, entered the west ditch, drove through a fence and came to rest in a pond of water, according to the State Patrol.
He was airlifted to North Memorial in Robbinsdale. When the accident took place in the early morning, passersby immediately came to his aid, including someone with a boom truck, who pulled Osterkamp’s truck out of the water before the State Patrol and other emergency crews had arrived. However, they had trouble extricating Osterkamp out of the completely submerged vehicle, according to eyewitness reports given to WCCO. They reported that Osterkamp was wearing his seat belt. He was in the water for about 10 minutes or more.
OTSEGO, MN — A Princeton man is in critical condition following a one-vehicle accident on Highway 101 near Otsego in Wright County this morning (May 29).
Lance Osterkamp, 64, was driving a 1998 Chevy truck southbound on Highway 101 at 6:36 a.m. when he went off road near County Road 39, hit a small approach crossing the northbound lanes, came back through the median, entered the west ditch, drove through a fence and came to rest in a pond of water.
The truck was fully submerged. Osterkamp was extricated and airlifted to North Memorial Hospital. Those who witnessed the accident and helped at the scene were the following: Brian Smith, Tanya Daugerty, Anthony Hills, Christopher Ecklund, Jeffery Bickman, and Dale Cazett.
COKATO, MN – Drivers on Highway 12 at the west end of Cokato likely saw barricades in the middle of the street Wednesday due to a sink hole located there, commented Ken Bakke of public works for the City of Cokato. The sink hole was causing a separation in the storm sewer pipe. Crews from MnDOT quickly addressed the situation, and had the problem fixed in a few days.
DASSEL, MN - Joseph Richard Jurek, 27, of Dassel was arrested May 26 for assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop on Highway 15 and County State Aid Highway 18.
Meeker County Deputy Taylor Fenrich ran the plates of Jurek finding his license had been revoked.
Jurek resisted arrest, was uncooperative, and became belligerent kicking the officer causing an abrasion on his left leg, according to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin..
Jurek was charged with driving after revocation, fourth degree assault of police officer, and disorderly conduct, according to Norlin.
DASSEL-COKATO, MN - Within seconds of being dispatched to the Dassel-Cokato High School for the mock crash, Cokato Fire Department was dispatched to a real accident along Highway 12 and Rhoades Avenue, near the high school.
Waiting to be dispatched to the mock crash at the St. John’s Education Center near Rhoades Avenue were the Dassel Fire Department and the Litchfield Gold Cross Ambulance.
A two-car accident occurred right in front of their eyes, according to Dassel Fire Chief Dale Grochow.
This is something the first responders had planned for during the making of the mock crash event.
If any of the participants needed to respond to a real-life emergency during the mock crash, a universal word would be said and the emergency responders would discontinue the mock crash.
The word was “snowball.”
“We used the word snowball that day,” Grochow said.
At 12:58 p.m. a juvenile from Cokato, driving a 1997 Buick, stopped on Highway 12 waiting to make a left-hand turn onto Rhoades Avenue and was rear-ended, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The stopped vehicle was struck by a 2004 Buick driven by 90-year-old Ruby Voight of Cokato.
Both parties were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – A fatal accident in Wright County has been identified, which contributed to a total of 12 fatal accidents over the Memorial Day holiday, according to authorities.
The identity was released of a 25-year-old pedestrian from Otsego who was killed in Wright County Saturday, May 23, according to the State Patrol.
Jason Boeckel, 25, of Otsego attempted to cross I-94 near Wright Co. 75 as a pedestrian, near Monticello. Rita Jeter, 46, of St. Louis, MO, was driving a 2001 Dodge van on the Interstate that collided with Boeckel at 10:03 p.m. Saturday.
Other fatalities are in other non-local counties, some of which involved alcohol, and several that were with motorcycles.
The most recent accident involved a 61-year-old female driver from Carver who was killed in an accident Sunday, May 24, according to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office. This accident involved two vehicles and took place in the City of Carver. The other driver was a juvenile from Carver County. It was noted that the older female was not wearing her seat belt. Names are being withheld, pending notification of relatives
