The Cokato City Council has proclaimed Sunday, Aug. 31 as “Mary Ackerman Day” in honor of the retirement of the longtime Cokato librarian.
Programs and exhibits sponsored by the Dassel Area Historical Society will highlight Saturday, Aug. 30 of Red Rooster weekend at the Universal Laboratories (Ergot) building, home of the DAHS museum.
A traveling exhibit from the Landmark Center in St. Paul will arrive on the grounds at 9 a.m. John Carlsted, a 1953 graduate of Dassel High School, will speak at the annual program at 10 a.m., and a temporary exhibit, On the Campaign Trail, will open with a gallery talk at 11 a.m.
Book sale at Dassel Library is set for Saturday Aug. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Dassel’s Community Room. Book donations are welcome and may be dropped off at the library.
An attempted theft occurred Aug. 24 at a rural Dassel residence.
Loren Nass heard a vehicle driven up his driveway at 70264 180th St., Dassel. Nass saw the suspect get out of the car and take a 6-gallon can of gasoline out of Nass’ garage. Nass called out to the suspect that he had the license plate number of the vehicle.
The suspect set the gas can down and fled in the vehicle. Meeker County deputies checked out the plate number, and traced it to a Twin Cities resident, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.
Dassel Fire Department and Meeker County deputies responded to a cut gas line Aug. 18 on 233rd Street near Lake Washington.
O&S Construction of Bird Island accidentally cut the line while doing some work in the area. Other utility lines were marked, but the gas line might not have been, according to the company.
The gas line was repaired, and a report was taken, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.
