This week, the Wright County Board authorized Ag Inspector Ken Johnson and Kerry Saxton of the Wright County Soil and Water Conservation District to seek a grant to create a cooperative weed management area. The goal would be a cooperative effort to combat invasive species, such as buckthorn and wild parsnip (shown).

Just a reminder that this weekend the Theatre Sans Fil’s version of ‘Hansel and Gretel’ is at the Performing Arts Center. There are plenty of tickets left and the DC Arts Association needs public support. Tickets are $10 for kids and $18 for adults. This show would make for a great Saturday afternoon with its special effects, giant puppetry, unique costumes, set, lighting, and production. The show begins at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling Community Education at 286-4120.

Ann Harmala was a bit disappointed hearing Betsy’s Attic was closing. She knew the importance of a thrift shop and wanted to keep that going, maybe even expand the mission a bit, as well. Now, she along with the help of many others, is opening “Save and Share Thrift Shop” in the former Betsy’s Attic building. The store will be open Friday, Feb. 1. It will be accepting donations of gently used clothes, toys, household goods, books, and movies Saturday, Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. Money made from the store will go toward local community Christian ministry projects and toward international Bible translation and distribution.
The Saturday’s below freezing wind chill didn’t keep people away from watching the first snowmobiles buzz around Peterson Park. Old Model T snowmobile owners from across Midwest and Minnesota were invited to the Cokato Historical Society and the Cokato Museum hosted the first-ever event. Three snowmobiles showed up including ones from Fergus Falls, East Grand Forks, and Danville, Illinois. Although they were expecting six to show, (two canceled due to the cold temps), it was a good turnout. Spectators even got rides in these old-time vehicles. KARE 11 was even there. The clip aired Saturday night and can be seen online at http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=493599.
