A motorcycle accident on Highway 25 north of Highway 7 took the life of a New Germany man today (Thursday), reported the State Patrol.
The 40-year-old-driver, whose name hasn’t been released pending notification of relatives, was riding a 1987 Kawasaki motorcycle when the crash took place. (Click for more) He was traveling northbound on Highway 25 when he lost control of his cycle on a curve and went off the roadway to the left, according to the State Patrol. The driver was ejected onto Highway 25 and declared dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
Filings are sparse yet for school board, city council and mayorships in the area, which feature open seats in the fall election.
It should be noted that school districts have earlier filing periods than the cities do; that being Tuesday, Aug. 26 through Tuesday, Sept. 9 for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted and Lester Prairie school board seats.

Hutchinson Police are looking for a suspect that grabbed about 10 bags of potato chips from the Subway restaurant on Highway 15 South and then ran away, as reported by KDUZ Radio. The incident occurred at about 10:30 pm Thursday, Aug. 14. Apparently, the suspect put on a black mask before going inside, helping himself to armfuls of Miss Vicky’s Buttermilk Ranch chips before running out the door. The suspect is described as a tall white male man, about 6′4″, wearing an orange tee-shirt, and black mask.

The Winsted and Lester Prairie Police Departments arrested eight impaired drivers during a Department of Public Safety (DPS) Safe and Sober impaired driving campaign conducted throughout July. More than 400 Minnesota law enforcement agencies participated in the effort. Over 500,395 Minnesotans have a DWI on record, meaning one in eight Minnesotans with a driver’s record has a DWI.

Tuesday, the Wright County Sheriff Gary Miller was asked for assistance by Sherburne County investigators in what turned out to be a murder-suicide.
Wright County was advised of the situation from the beginning, when asked to check on the welfare of Rory Scott Zitur, 47, at his residence, 89 Halsey Ave NE, in the City of St. Michael. Sherburne Investigators advised that they were out at an apparent murder suicide incident in the City of Zimmerman, and had developed information that a third party may be deceased at the Halsey Ave location.
Wright County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the Halsey Ave NE address to find Zitur dead, alone in his residence, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators with the Sherburne County sheriff’s office told WCCO News that they think Gary D. Heald of Zimmerman killed 47-year-old Rory S. Zitur then killed Heald’s wife, 56-year-old Deloris L. Robert Hook of Triple H Aviation of Big Lake walked away uninjured Friday morning after piloting a helicopter that crashed near 70th Street, on Wright County Road 3, south of Cokato. Hook had been spraying a cornfield for Faribault Foods of Cokato, so normally he wouldn’t have been flying that low, he said. The helicopter tangled with powerlines at a residence just south of the cornfield, where powerline workers were doing some repairs, Hook added. Cokato Fire Department and Wright County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
A 52-year-old Hopkins woman was killed when her motorcycle left the road and crashed into a guard rail Sunday afternoon on Carver County Road 40, just north of Highway 25, reported KDUZ Radio. Her name has not been released, pending notification of relatives.
At its meeting Tuesday, the Watertown-Mayer School Board approved a resolution for the proposed immediate discharge and suspension with pay of Nick Guertin, principal of Watertown-Mayer Elementary School, reported the Carver County News.
The unanimous 5-0 decision (board member Larry Oberender was absent) was made after the board held an approximately 90-minute closed session during the meeting.
