LP School Board approves all-sports pairing with HT Winsted for additional two years

At Lester Prairie’s July 21 school board meeting, the board approved all-sports pairing with Holy Trinity Winsted for an additional two years bringing the pairing contract through the 2010-11 school year. As part of the agreement, it will be necessary for Holy Trinity to keep current on its financial obligations to Lester Prairie for their half of the pairing expenses. An additional part of the agreement approved by the board, gives LP Athletic Director Scott Fitzsimonds the responsibility of making all of the LP/HT sports decisions related to the sports program including, but not limited to, the uniforms, team locations, etc.

Winsted city staff prepares for move to new city hall

At the Winsted City Council meeting July 15, Mayor Steve Stotko announced that the Winsted city hall would be closed Thursday, July 17, Friday, July 18, and Monday, July 21, as city staff moves into the new Winsted city hall. The plan is for everything at the new city hall to be ready for business Tuesday, July 22.

Winsted on the Lake townhomes undergo inspections

Crews inspected townhomes built in Winsted on the Lake development July 8. Siding was lifted, checked, and photographs were taken, pending a possible lawsuit against the builder of some of the homes, as well as some sub-contractors, according to Jennifer A. City of Winsted 2008 election update

At Winsted’s city council meeting July 1, City Clerk-Treasurer Deb Boelter told the council the filing date for mayor and two council member positions begins Tuesday, Aug. 26 and will run through Thursday, Sept. 11 until 5 p.m.
Anyone interested in serving as an election judge for the primary, Tuesday Sept. 9, or the general election, Tuesday, Nov. 4, should contact city staff. The shifts are from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to closing. The wage is $8 per hour and meals are provided. Election judge training will be held at the McLeod County Auditor’s office beginning Monday, Aug. 18.

Intruder(s) breaks in to Winsted’s new city hall during Winstock weekend

An intruder (or possibly intruders) broke into the new Winsted city hall during Winstock weekend and, using what Winsted City Administrator Brent Mareck believes to be a broom handle, punched holes in the lower level Sheetrock. Mareck estimates the damage to be a day’s worth of work to repair, but because Sheetrock will need to be replaced, will require a week to complete the task. He does not see the work delaying the city staff’s move in date.

Winsted council OKs Kingsley Street trail plan

Kingsley Street trail has been a hot topic of the Winsted Trail Committee since it first began working on its trail master plan in February of 2007. The Winsted City Council brought the subject to an end, at its Tuesday meeting, when they agreed to leave Kingsley Street a two-way street, with striping along the east side of the road to set aside a trail to use as a biking and walking path. The estimated cost of the project is $23,000 which will include a safety fence along a portion of Kingsley, signage, and the off-road bituminous trail connecting the Luce Line Trail to Kingsley Street, and connecting First Street to Mill Reserve Park. The Kingsley Street striping trail plan will now be included in the final draft of the Winsted Trail Master Plan which is to be presented to the Winsted City Council at its July 1 meeting.

Band Silent Substitute in concert to support Guatemalan mission

The Christian rock band Silent Substitute is on a mission “near and dear to their hearts” – helping young children in need.
Performing at a concert Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Howard Lake Waverly-Winsted Middle School, Silent Substitute offers its talent to assist in the funding of the upcoming Harvest Community Church of Winsted’s Guatemalan mission trip in August.
In Guatemala, the Harvest Community Church supports Michael and Kambria Robertson, missionaries with Open Doors Ministry International. The Robertsons work primarily with orphans and medical ministry near Guatemala City. A major project Robertsons are working on is called House of Hope which will offer one meal a day to the children who don’t always get enough to eat.

Winsted, Tree City USA, celebrates Arbor Day

winfinishweb.jpgThe City of Winsted observed Arbor Day by planting an Autumn Blaze Maple tree in Westgate Park Tuesday afternoon. Mayor Steve Stotko, Winsted tree member Hank Poshek; city council members Dave Mochinski, Bonnie Quast, and Tom Wiemiller; Police Chief Mike Henrich, Officer Justin Heldt; city maintenance staff Dave Meyer and Jamie Stotko; and people from around the area were all willing to lend a hand with the planting. After the planting, a proclamation at Winsted City Hall was given by Mayor Steve Stotko on the value of planting and maintaining trees in the community.

Free concert tonight at Holy Trinity School featuring the band Lightswitch

A free concert presented by Higher Ground and Holy Trinity Parish and School will feature the band Lightswitch. The concert will be at Holy Trinity School gymnasium, tonight April 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will be door prizes, and concessions available. Discounted Higher Ground tickets will be available, as well. Everyone is welcome!

Reminisce ‘A Century of Hats’ to be presented at St. John’s in Winsted

For 10 years, Heather Edgington of Spring Grove has been using her vintage hat collection to reminisce past women’s fashion trends, as well as some of the era’s history each of her hats represents. She will be bringing her program “A Century of Hats – 1860 to 1960″ to St. John’s in Winsted Saturday, May 17. A luncheon will follow the program. The hat show and luncheon is being hosted by the St. John’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Everyone attending is encouraged to wear a favorite hat.
