A new court date has once again been set for Bert Hertzog of Winsted. His court date today (Monday, March 17) was continued until next month since he procured a new attorney.

Virgil Birkholz and Joey Berg retained their positions on the Middleville Township board as supervisor and clerk respectively during elections yesterday. There was a race for supervisor, with Birkholz being challenged by Roger Klugow. Birkholz registered 28 votes to challenger Roger Klugow’s 12 votes. Berg received 40 out of 41 votes. There was one write-in vote for Colleen Marketon for both clerk and supervisor. This was the only race in the area amongst township positions, with every other township that still offers springtime elections featuring incumbents only, and no challengers.
Bob Carlson resigned from the Lester Prairie School Board today, with an effective date of March 31. Carlson said he made the decision because he wants to spend more time with his new child and his family, and wants to focus on his career. “I faithfully served two terms on the board, but when they extended it by a year, it created a bit of a burden,” Carlson commented. Carlson is also the Lester Prairie police chief.

There will be a benefit concert for the Kris and Terry Munoz family of Howard Lake Saturday, March 8 Buffalo High School Performing Arts Center & commons area.The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Kris and Terry are the directors and founders of a Christian youth ministry called Side by Side Ministries in Golden Valley. On a split vote, the Wright County Board approved a request for an additional full-time sheriff’s department employee. This will allow the county to move forward with a plan to move metal detectors from the courts area to the main entrances to the government center. Anyone visiting the center will have to pass through these security checkpoints. The change could take place as soon as Tuesday, April 1.
