Bert Hertzog challenges search warrant

A new court date has been set for Bert Hertzog of Winsted, following his appearance today (Wednesday) in Wright County court.

Hertzog’s attorney is asking to suppress a search warrant done of Hertzog’s home last June, where authorities found unauthorized vehicle inspection stickers, as well as a letter that informed Hertzog that his inspector certification was suspended — something that Hertzog said he was unaware of. Crane Creek wetland project approved

The Crane Creek wetland restoration project moved one step forward Monday night when the ditch board for joint ditch 1 between Carver and McLeod counties approved the project. The Carver County Water Management Organization (WMO), which petitioned the project, still needs to get approval from all landowners in the impact area before the project can begin. Carver County Commissioner (and ditch board member) Tim Lynch said the board approved the project with two conditions. The project must be completed by 2010, and any lawsuits pertaining to the project must go through the WMA. The Crane Creek wetland area is south of Highway 7 on the Carver/McLeod county line.

Howard Lake Fishing Derby a big success

hlnewslogpic.jpgDespite the very cold weather and arctic gusts of wind, a big crowd turned out for the 62nd Annual Fishing Derby on Howard Lake Saturday. The Country Store had a steady flow of people enjoying a free lunch and buying last minute raffle tickets.

The big raffle winner of the fish house was Don Marshall of Buffalo. The Vexilar Depth Finder went to Ross Schmidt of Delano, and the winners of the two framed prints were Ken Durdahl of Howard Lake and Jason Theis of Waconia. About 100 small raffle prizes were also awarded and Joe’s Sport Shop in Howard Lake has the complete list of winners.

Stereos stolen on lot east of Hutch

Numerous vehicles were damaged and stereos were stolen from the First Class Towing lot on Highway 7 east of Hutchinson Jan. 23, according to the McLeod County Sheriff’s office. A stereo system valued at $2,500 was taken from a 1992 Buick LeSabre owned by Daniel Kurtz of Hutchinson. A stereo valued at $200 was taken from a 1993 Ford Escort owned by Carlin Bethke of Stewart.
Numerous other vehicles were also damaged, according to the sheriff’s department. The incident remains under investigation.

Highway 7 meeting set for Tuesday, Feb. 12

A meeting between MnDOT and cities and townships affected by the Highway 7 construction project has been set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Lester Prairie City Hall, located at 37 Juniper Street North.

Ice divers will hit the water in Carver

The Carver County Dive Team is hosting an Ice Dive Certification Training for Public Safety Divers this weekend, which will include a classroom session Friday, Feb. 8 and an under-ice dive including the recovery of a vehicle on Saturday, Feb. 9.  For further information, contact Chief Deputy Bob VanDenBroeke.
