The Crane Creek wetland restoration project moved one step forward Monday night when the ditch board for joint ditch 1 between Carver and McLeod counties approved the project. The Carver County Water Management Organization (WMO), which petitioned the project, still needs to get approval from all landowners in the impact area before the project can begin. Carver County Commissioner (and ditch board member) Tim Lynch said the board approved the project with two conditions. The project must be completed by 2010, and any lawsuits pertaining to the project must go through the WMA. The Crane Creek wetland area is south of Highway 7 on the Carver/McLeod county line.
