NEW GERMANY, MN – New Germany’s 125th anniversary was one of the few items discussed during a short New Germany City Council meeting Wednesday.
Council Member Shirley Jaeger presented a report from the Jan. 25 New Germany Commercial Club meeting, which was the first planning meeting for the anniversary celebration.
The celebration was tentatively scheduled Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15, 2012. This could change if there is a major conflict.
The group began forming committees to organize various events.
One committee will explore a possible car show, tractor show, and threshing show.
Another will coordinate children’s activities.
Other committees will handle bands, food, history, parade, church services, baseball games, and fireworks.
There will be a variety of fundraisers to help pay for the celebration, including a pancake breakfast Sunday, March 21 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The next planning meeting will take place Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
