The shocking death of movie star Heath Ledger, who was rich, famous and good looking, reminds me of the poem, “Richard Cory.” Here are the final two verses:
And he was rich — yes, richer than a king,
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.
So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread,
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

I loved Heath Ledger in a Knight’s Tale. It is a shame! I feel for the family!!!
I remember reading that poem in high school. Does anyone remember the author?
“Richard Cory” was written by Edwin Arlington Robinson.
