McLeod County Sheriff’s Office issues scam alert

McLEOD COUNTY, MN – McLeod County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning Thursday regarding a UK and North American Shoppers’ sweepstakes scam involving Camelotgroup in conjunction with HP Food Service full line distributor.

The sheriff’s office advises residents that a scam is being sent through the mail with a message “You are the lucky winner of a shoppers’ sweepstake.” Recipients are told they won the shoppers’ sweepstakes “by shopping at one of the following North American stores: Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Sears, Costco, Home Depot, Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy, etc.”

Recipients are told not to disclose the letter to anyone, and not to remove the letter from their residence “because it holds the claim number on the check that is enclosed.”

Recipients are told to call a “claims consultant” to have their winnings remitted within three days.

The McLeod County Sheriff’s Office warns residents that this is a scam, and advises them not to respond to the letter or cash the check.
