MAYER, MN – The Thursday, Jan. 26 announcements for Mayer Lutheran High School are as follows:

The weight room will be closed today after school.

Lost a 16 GB Ipod Nano. Last seen in the gym. If found please turn it into the office.

ASVAB is Thursday, Jan. 26 for all juniors. Meet in the cafeteria at 8:20 am and bring #2 pencils. Testing will be done at 11:30.

Congratulations to the varsity Knowledge Bowl team of Marie Landskroener, Miriam Wilson, Joe Walden, Sean Bartz, and Ryan Wade for placing third at the Central Minnesota Group Knowledge Bowl meet in New Germany. They beat our friendly rival, Kimball, by one point to claim the 3rd place medals.

QBKB team members are reminded to confirm their participation in the Rogers High School KB meet this Saturday by speaking to Mr. Loontjer today. The bus will be leaving at 7:30 on Saturday morning to guarantee our on-time arrival in Rogers.

Costume Committee will meet Thursday and Friday at 3:00. Come any day you can. No experience needed.

HELP IS NEEDED!!! Volunteers are needed to provide concessions at the Youth Gathering [un]Paved this weekend. Shifts are 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm Friday and 2:30 to 4:00pm Saturday. Please contact Tim Bierbaum at 952.657.2251×318 if you are interested in helping.

All first semester art projects must be picked up from the art room by the end of the school day today, January 26.

Juniors and Seniors

Gustavus Adolphus will be here on Thursday, Jan. 26 @ 12:30 pm.

Party yourself into feeling great! Join the Zumba class. Conducted by Mrs. Alvarez. Every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30-4:45 in the band room. Cost is $4.00 a session. Call her to sign up. 763-232-1101

Bracelets will be sold at the basketball games for Tianna Schilling. Please look for the table in the lobby to purchase yours. Thank you.

This Friday, January 27, the girls basketball team hosts Sibley East. It is Crusaders for a Cure night. Wear pink to the game! A shooting contest will be held that evening. You can take a half-court shot for $2, a three point shot for $5, a free throw for $10 or a layup for $30 (we will even let you shoot until you make the layup). All participants who make a shot will be entered into a drawing for prizes, including a 40# Sony tv. All proceeds go to the Pay It Forward fund at Ridgeview Medical Center, which helps families who are impacted by this deadly disease pay their bills while they are undergoing treatment.

We will also be accepting donations throughout the week in the form of a class competition. We will have jars available before school and at lunch. Remember coins count for your class, while bills count against the total. This competition will run until February 1. The winning class will be served a formal lunch on Thursday, including a big cookie. In appreciation of your donation, the girls basketball team will give you a Crusaders for a Cure pink bracelet. Thanks for supporting this cause!

The following students need to turn in their Semester 1 Comparative Religion – Under the Banner of Heaven text: Nathan Haubrich, Philip Burfeind, Tyler Drusch, Jessica Klaustermeier, Devin Lilienthal. Please turn these in today to Pastor Wismar.

All students interested in joining our problem-solving team should plan on meeting in Mr. Loontjer’s room today after the Daniel Program. Session will last until 4:00. All grade levels welcome. See Mrs. Esser or Mr. Loontjer for more details. Come be a part of our teams involved in TEAMS.

On Friday, Jan 27 the Media Center will be closed at 2:45. All students will need to be out of the FA Center Lobby and Media Center hallway by 4:00 PM. Make sure you take your bookbags, coats, etc… with you prior to 4:00 PM. All of this is to facilitate set up for the UnPaved Youth Event that evening.

The Snofest Dance will be held on Friday, February 3. The dance will be held in the cafeteria. Time: 9PM – 11PM. Cost: $5 per person. Reminder: If you are inviting someone from another school they will need to complete a guest registration form that can be picked up in the office and returned by this Friday, January 27.

Do you want a particular song played at the SnoFest Dance? If so, please sign up by Friday, January 27 on the paper outside Mr. Gustin’s office.

Carver Lifelines, Lutherans for Life is sponsoring an Essay Contest throughout Carver County for students in grades 9-12. The essay should be 750-1000 words on a life issue such as: abortion, infanticide, cloning, genetic manipulation, stem cell research, and physician assisted suicide. Prizes are awarded for the top three papers. 1st place: $150 + precious feet pin, 2nd place: $100 + precious feet pin, and 3rd place: $75 + precious feet pin. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Meier for a judging criteria rubric. Essays are due to Mrs. Meier on Friday, February 3. Winners will be notified by March 4.
