WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – The prosecution will ask a Stearns County judge to put Jerry L. Thompson behind bars for more than 10 years and possibly much longer for kidnapping and trying to kill his estranged wife, the Annandale Advocate reported.

Judge Vicki Landwehr issued a written verdict Thursday, Dec. 17, convicting Jerry Thompson, 50, of St. Joseph of first-degree attempted murder, kidnapping, burglary and assault and set sentencing for March 25.

According to evidence in the three-day trial the previous week, Thompson forced  Jacquelyn Thompson from her Fair Haven Township into her car – at one point firing his .44 revolver at her as she tried to escape.

Thompson led Wright and Stearns County sheriff’s deputies on a slow-speed pursuit from west of Annandale in Wright County back into Stearns.

The incident ended just east of Kimball when the woman escaped unhurt and Thompson was shot in the chest.
