ST. PAUL, MN – After winning his opening round match in the Class 1A state tournament Wednesday at 189 pounds, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Laker senior grappler John Long ran into some tough competition.

Long faced off against Redwood Valley’s Brian Anderson in the quarterfinals last night (Thursday), falling via second round fall (2:56).

That loss dropped Long into the consolation round, where he had to face Dayton Sternhagen of West Central Area later last night.

Again, it was a second-round fall that ended Long’s match, as he fell to Sternhagen in 2:55. That loss also ends Long’s season. He finished with a 36-8 overall record.
