Kernels pick up two wins

The Cokato Kernels picked up two wins on the road in North Star League action recently to improve their record to 5-11 in NSL play.

Cokato defeated Maple Plain 8-6 Thursday, and downed Montrose-Waverly 5-1 Friday.

Isaac Nelson went a combined 5-for-8 in both games, with four RBI. Dalton Asplin picked up a complete-game win against Maple Plain, while Steve Schmitt (7 innings, two runs) was credited with the win against the Stingers.

The two wins came against some bad news, as Kernels starting shortstop Tommy Halonen will likely miss the rest of the season after colliding with second baseman Luke Nelson in their game at Montrose.
