HUTCHINSON – The Cokato Kernels, after losing to Hutchinson 6-5 in the MBA Region 12C winners bracket Friday, faced the winner of the losers’ bracket game between Howard Lake and Maple Lake Saturday afternoon. [All Region 12C games were held at Hutchinson]
The Orphans and the Lakers battled to 14 innings, before Howard Lake scored a 3-2 victory.
Howard Lake’s victory meant they would face Cokato 30 minutes later.
The Kernels jumped out to an 8-0 lead with four runs in the first, and four runs in the second, en route to a 13-1, seven-inning victory.
Cokato veteran pitcher Tanner Terning went the distance, giving up just one run in seven innings.
The Kernels’ victory sets up a rematch of Friday’s contest between Cokato and Hutchinson for the Region 12C championship, to be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hutchinson.
The winner of that game will receive the #1 seed from the Region, a first-round bye, and the first pick in the region pitcher draft.
