Hutchinson officer injured tangling with uncooperative suspect


A Hutchinson police officer was injured after fighting with an uncooperative Hutchinson man Tuesday, according to local authorities.

At just after 11:30 a.m, Hutchinson Police responded to a report of a suspicious person who was reported to be screaming outside in the 900 Block of Jefferson Street Southeast.

Officers made contact with the man, who had an outstanding warrant and identified as 29-year-old Kyle Skyler Melchert. He was taken into custody for his McLeod County failure to appear warrant on original charges of Misdemeanor – Obstruct Legal Process and Misdemeanor – Flee Police Officer by Means Other Than a Motor Vehicle.

Melchert was uncooperative at the time of his arrest and fought with officers causing injury to one of the officers. The officer was treated for a broken ring finger on his right hand and was released.

Melchert was taken to the McLeod County Jail and has been charged with Felony 3rd Degree Assault.
