Howard Lake to offer contest that will beautify city for summer

Some details are yet to be determined, but a contest that will result in the beautification of Howard Lake’s city streets will be announced soon.
At its Tuesday meeting, the city council discussed a contest that will challenge the city’s businesses to design flower baskets that will hang from light poles this summer along Highway 12, and possibly Eighth Avenue and Wright County Road 6.
The contest was initiated as a beautification project because of the 130 year anniversary this year of the city’s incorporation. It is sponsored by the Howard Lake Business Association.
The city will supply participating businesses with the baskets, but only 20 baskets will be available on a first come, first served basis.
Judging of the baskets will take place during Good Neighbor Days June 19-22 by people appointed by the business association.
Banners will also be hung from the light poles displaying the city’s new logo and some kind of greeting printed on them.
More details regarding the contest will be made available near the end of April. Businesses may contact city hall after Monday, April 21 for more information or to request a basket.
