Howard Lake summer rec offers ball games, trips, activities for youth


The Summer Recreation, Exploration, Art, Challenge, Happy and Healthy (REACH) program in Howard Lake offers a variety of activities and trips in the upcoming weeks.

Area youth are also encouraged to participate in the Howard Lake Good Neighbor Days events, Howard Lake Public Library programs, and summer reading.

Softball/baseball

Boys’ baseball and girls’ softball for ages 5 through completed grade six will be offered Monday, June 12 through Friday, July 21 at Yager Field, 9th Street and 9th Avenue in Howard Lake.

Daytime practices and games are scheduled.

Wednesday afternoons and Fridays will include activities such as soccer, kickball, and dodgeball.

To ensure receiving a summer recreation T-shirt, registrations must be received by Thursday, June 1.

Registrations for baseball and softball will not be accepted by phone.

A registration form is available at Howard Lake City offices, the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Community Education office, or online at hlww.k12.mn.us, click on Community Education, Youth Activities, youth Summer Rec City of HL.

Registrations are to be returned to the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Community Education office.

Trips, activities

A trip to Valleyfair in Shakopee is scheduled for Wednesday, June 28.

A trip to the Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees is planned for Wednesday, July 19.

A variety of activities for youth will be offered in the commons at MAWSECO, 720 9th Avenue in Howard Lake. Activities include: Art, Craft and a Story; Got-a-Minute Games; Fossils – Reading the Rocks; Chess Camp; Back Yard Science; Take Apart – What’s Inside?; Lego Construction Challenge; Air Dry Sculpture; Slime Making; and a Pencil Drawing class.
